Counselling and psychotherapy

Individual Counselling/Psychotherapy

People attend individual therapy for a variety of reasons, but usually for one of two basic reasons (1) there is an underlying factor(s) within themselves they want to change or (2) they are relatively content with their life, but are looking to develop themselves further.

Many people may attend therapy because there is a deep sense of unhappiness and are not able to put their finger on their discomfort, or a friend, a partner, or a family member have shared their concerns about the person. In either case, making an appointment is the first step towards change.

Individual counselling/psychotherapy are for those who are willing and open to change, sometimes we go into therapy for specific reasons, but then realise it was something completely different then may require long term therapy.

Short-term therapy is usually focused-structured and direct because of the amount of time short-term therapy permits. A lot can be achieved; without awareness, the individual may find it difficult or struggle with modifying or change their thinking, behaviour or emotional aspects of themselves. Short-term psychotherapy can serve as a platform to continue psychotherapy with the view of long-term or help the person to identify, understand and resolve individual issues.

Structure of the sessions

I work based on short and long term psychotherapy, and each session starts on the hour for 50 minutes; usually weekly sessions are the best option, particularly for short term psychotherapy.

The first session will involve gathering background information, reasons for coming to therapy and what you hope to gain at the end.    For best practice, a contract will be drawn for the client to sign for confidentiality and cancellation policies.

What benefits are there working with a therapist?

Taking part in psychotherapy has many benefits more than the client maybe aware of. Sometimes we become aware of the changes situations, in some relationships, how we relate or communicate with some people; our behaviours, thinking or even our emotional reactions may alter even towards ourselves. Even awareness is sufficient enough to cause change. The benefits of therapy may depend on how well you use the sessions and the process of putting what you have learnt into practice. Some of the benefits can include:

  • Learn to let go of unhealthy behavioural and thinking patterns – your emotional reactions are less reactive, breaking old negative patterns and developing new ones
  • Attaining a better understanding of yourself
  • Finding and identifying solutions that led you to therapy
  • Managing difficult feelings like depression, anxiety and other emotional pressures
  • To be heard and understood
  • Identifying blocks that have held you back
  • Improving self-esteem and self-worth as well as enhancing your confidence
  • Improving interpersonal skills

Call now for a Coaching Assessment

How many sessions?

We will work on a 12-session course for 45 minutes per session, if required further sessions can be arranged, and monitoring action plans. Each session will be S.M.A.R.T orientated to move the objectives forward; any hidden challenges along the way will be discussed and explored. During this time and in other sessions, it’s important to check in for any self-sabotaging behaviours.

What can I expect from coaching?

The co-relationship between business coach and you are the foundation of a proactive and effective coaching relationship. An assessment of your background, knowledge, experience, and personality type will offer an insight of the type of support and guidance to CREATE the S.M.A.R.T goal setting.

An assessment will focus on your specific requirements and will assist in building a package that will meet your needs. The content of the package will be discussed as well as your ideas will be implemented.  A direct, structured and intuitive approach to guide and support your process to detect any underlying self-sabotaging issues or anxieties will be explored.

I feel it’s important to go with your ‘gut’ feeling, you’re intuitive or creative aspect of yourself that has the intellect to view all angles; sometimes that part of ourselves has more insight than our rationality. Therefore, to sit with the feeling before acting will give you the space to discover the next step.

A coach with a dynamic personality, I tend to be enthusiastic and energetic with a passion for supporting you and your ideas, so am here for you, but equally you must be present for yourself.

You can expect to be more aware of your potential and negative beliefs that may have held you back.

You will expect integrity, trust, straight forward communication, commitment, willingness to learn from your business, a desire to succeed, partnership building, realistic expectations, supportive of your business needs and aspirations, good motivator, and an effective and proactive business coach.

What does the coach need from me during each session?

Since we have 12 sessions, the S.M.A.R.T system will hone-in towards your goal or aspirations, and evaluate an action plan for the following week. To support your process to write any ideas, thoughts, dreams, feelings that will facilitate the building blocks of your business. Between sessions you can email if you become stuck and need an ear to voice your concerns.

To every session bring a pad and pen to record your session and to assist you with your action plan for the week.

Every session we will check to see how you are doing and deal with any difficulties.

How much do you charge?

This will be independently assessed

All services include confidentiality and cancellation policy

Confidentiality is common practice of all communication between psychotherapist, (coach & personal stylist) and client to remain confidential. However, due to the nature of psychotherapy, there are two main reasons to override confidentiality: first, to prevent harm to self or others and to report to the appropriate authorities immediately:

  • If suspected child abuse, or dependent adult or an elder abuse person.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person(s), the therapist by law must notify the police.
  • The need to discuss client work with your supervisor. It is also helpful to remind clients that nothing sent electronically (mobile, email, or other devices) can be guaranteed to be entirely secure (BACP, 2016)
Cancellation policy

A 24-48 hour notice will be given to rearrange the session, but not replace the subsequent session. If sessions are cancelled without sufficient notice full payment will be required unless an emergency or an illness were to happen then the session can also be rearranged.
